Sigma Energy Solutions has received two prestigious Engineering Excellence awards for Sigma’s CondenserBoost™ technology, awarded by Engineers Australia (Qld. division).

The awards were announced at the Queensland Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, held in Brisbane on September 8th. CondenserBoost™ is a patented technology, developed by Sigma engineer Doug Buchbach, Principal Consultant - Cooling Systems. The technology has recently been commercialised and is installed at Callide B Power Station and in the process of being installed at Tarong Power Station in Queensland. CS Energy Corporation were joint recipients of the awards as they were Sigma’s client for the CondenserBoost™ pilot project, installed at Callide B. This outstanding technology has a number of significant benefits for both our customers and the greater community at large. For Callide B the savings in coal burnt is approximately 10,000T per annum and 36,000T of carbon dioxide emissions. We believe that when applied to other power plants both here in Australia and around the world we can contribute significantly to the improvement in plant operation and reductions in emissions throughout the entire power industry. Such optimism seems justified with representatives from Government and the EPA so impressed that they have indicated that they want to promote CondenserBoost™ technology throughout their own publications to the broader industry. This is a tremendous achievement which has been acknowledged by the engineering profession and is testament to the hard work, dedication and ingenuity that has been applied by many at Sigma over the past years and we look forward to the next exciting innovations being developed including TowerBoost™. TowerBoost™ is another patented technology forming part of the Sigma DBX Technologies® Cooling System Improvement Solutions product suite. TowerBoost™ is designed to increase efficiency and output in large natural draft cooling towers employing methods of increasing and improving air flow through cooling towers.
